Born in South Fork Pennsylvania, Russ Marshall now calls Detroit home. After studying at Cody High and then Wayne State University, he joined the United States Navy, learned photography, and spent part of his enlisted time in Cuba. He began his professional career in the 1970's and 80's as a free-lance industrial photographer. During this time his work appeared in numerous national and international publications, including magazines in Germany, England, and the Soviet Union. He also lists dozens of international and trade union publications in which his work has appeared.
In recent years Marshall has directed more time and energy to his fine art photography. His work has been included in many solo and group exhibitions, including his most recent show entitled "This Working Life: Labor and Industry," at Youngstown State University, located in Ohio.
